Yes! Lets be honest, fcing in Dust works, but its far from perfect. With the reinvention of Dust through Legion lets work on a commander mode like BF4 has.
I play PC ever since Uprising came out and jad the pleasure to fight under alot of excelllent FC's one thin EVERY FC stated in the debriefing after fight was that he wished he wished there was a better way to fulfill the task of a FC.
FC Mode The FC mode is quiet simple:
1. You sit on the map of the current battle with all objectives, and all squadmembers listed on the side of your screen, you can also see info like we currently have when you respawn on your squadmate, so basically if a merc is dead, or in a vehicle for example.
2.As a Commander you have the ability to see all scans of every squad while you keeping an overview on enemy and friendly troup and vehicle movement.
3.The ability to highlight objects for a squad like you can in BF4 is just plain awesome for a much more tactical game like Dust is.
4.I'd also say give the Commander (FC) the ability to call in gained orbitals, most of the times in an exhausting fight its not possible to hide in a corner to call in a strike, so make it dual usable (but only once for sure) that either the fc, or the squad leader can call it in.
5.We saw the ability to call in structures like commando notes,turrets, crus and supply depots in earlier dust montages. Lets make this real and which person is better for this job than the fc/commander?
6.It should be optional to open the comms between Eve pilots and Mercs so you can switch that only the FC or the whole team can talk to the pilot.
7.Comm structure in Dust is horrible, to have all sit in one room just sucks, make it so that the FC can talk to every merc while mercs in squads just can talk to each other, the fc will be still be able to hear each squad leader.This will make fights more intresting and much better coordinated, especially for newcomer teams with horrible comms.
8. As FC you should get double of the aproximate payout of the whole team, why double? because he carries the team on his shoulders, even tho he is not in danger of loosing suits or vehicles.
Dust/Legion was always thought as a strategic shooter, having a main commander, especially in PC is a major factor on giving the strategic feel, and to feel like a soldier. It will also help new guys trying out this position because fighting, and still having the eyes all over the map can be quiet frustrating and to much for young mercs.

When a FC mode would be initialized (what contexts/what types of battles) is also an issue that would need to be addressed. Is it automatic when you start a single squad, does one FC slot get generated when you form larger battle groups (2+ squads). Does more than one FC slot become available depending on the size of group? Should this be set or could it be defined by the players?
Do you have FCs for the looting grounds (PvE/PvP areas) or just for the contracts (PvP only) or the other way around?
Just questions that occur to me off the top of my head.
Personally I'd say the commandar slot gets available only in pc with more than 2 squads, I'm not to sure about public contracts but definately for fw and pc. To the pve part: It depends on how its going to turn out, if its mostly the mining, and exploration ccp rouge talked about, than i don't think its necessary, but if pve is about invading deone festations or defending points from drones I think the commander spot could still be quiet useful.

Sorry my bad, dient meant the fc should get doubled of the TOTAL team income but double of the AVERAGE merc income per battle, gonna change it in the main post
